Babies do not always stick to the planned delivery date, which is why optimal preparation is important. From the 8th month of pregnancy you should therefore have your hospital bag ready. Some babies are suddenly in a hurry and don’t wait for their due date to arrive. You will then be happy to have everything ready to hand next to the door or in the car.
You should pack the following for your hospital stay:
Clothing and care for you:
- Morning bathrobe or bathrobe
- 3 – 4 nightgowns, pajamas or T-shirts that can be unbuttoned at the front up to the navel and thus make breastfeeding easier
- 7 – 8 cotton panties
- at least 1 nursing bra
- Warm non-slip socks
- slippers
- washcloths and towels
- washing and cosmetic articles
- Clothes for the way home that fit you in the 5th or 6th month
- Toiletries and toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrush, lip balm, shower gel, skin cream, possibly hair ties, massage oil, shampoo)
- Jogging suit or pants, comfortable shirts
- for contact lens wearers: don’t forget your glasses
For your baby:
- 1-2 rompers
- Possibly 1-2 pants and sweater
- 1 warm hood (winter) or 1 light hat (summer)
- 1 thick jacket or 1 jacket (depending on the season)
- 1-2 pairs of socks (possibly fur shoes or thick socks in winter)
- A small, cozy baby blanket
- Diaper for newborns
- wet wipes
- 1-2 spit diapers
- For transport: baby seat in the car, pram or sling
- music box or music
- Pacifier (if you want to give it)
Also think about the following things when you leave the house for the clinic…
- Documents: e-card, mother-child passport, proof of additional insurance, if applicable, identity card, marriage certificate, birth certificate for unmarried mothers
- Mobile phone or digital camera including charging cable (for the first baby photos)
- A baby seat for the ride home
